ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Alessia Donà, an Italian abstract artist, originally from a small town in the province of Padua, a stone's throw from the beautiful Euganean Hills and not far from magical Venice.

I lived most of my life in Italy, where I studied International Economics and Digital Marketing and worked in Fashion Retail for many years, before becoming a full-time painter.

Passionate about art since I was a child, even if life took me down different paths in the past, I never abandoned my great passion, which continued in parallel with my career in fashion.

Although largely self-taught, my curiosity drove me to delve into myriad art courses. From the vibrant strokes of material painting and the raw emotions of abstract expressionism to the rhythmic dance of experimental calligraphy and the spontaneity of extemporaneous watercolors.

Every technique I've mastered, I've blended together, crafting artworks that resonate with profound significance. So I embarked on a journey, painting motivational quotes, a style I define as abstract calligraphy, using an artisanal cola pen, Japanese ink and watercolours.

In 2019 I received my first commissions and soon after I created a collection of bookmarks reminiscent of Japanese Omamori, in collaboration with the Italian stationery brand Inchiostro and Paper.

2021 was the year of transformation. In the midst of the pandemic I decided to give up everything and move from Italy to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with my husband. This radical change, not only geographical, was for me a moment of personal growth and openness to the world, a profound and spiritual journey that amplified my mission and dedication to art.

The universe rewarded my courage in 2022 when Alice Chang, artist and owner of Lai Lai Art Gallery, asked me to participate in an International Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, together with 26 other talented artists.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Inspired by the world around me and all the sensations it offers, making art has always represented expression of my inner world. Initially it helped me to free my mind, then gradually it became a mission: infusing positive energy and helping people live authentic lives, in line with their personality and free from constraints.

Bustling with ideas and with a passion for innovation, I create abstract masterpieces using mixed materials including acrylics, oil pastels, watercolors and inks. I also incorporate collages, ingeniously integrating fragments of past artworks, recycled materials from everyday life and memories collected during my global travels.

Each piece I produce is a tapestry of emotions and significance. Although my creative approach is free and intuitive, each element is carefully placed. I firmly believe that in life and art there are no boundaries, we should feel free to explore unknown territories, therefore I don't want to limit myself.

My mantra is: free your mind, enjoy the unexpected, embrace imperfections and live an authentic life.
